Let’s Do A Sugar Detox
Ok. I know I am crazy to introduce this to you the very day after Christmas. I am sure that everywhere you look right now is sugar. Sugar cookies and sweet Christmas treats, candy canes, chocolate in your stocking, freshly baked pie, hot cocoa, egg nog,… It is everywhere. And maybe you’re not sick of it… yet. Maybe you want to enjoy every single bite without guilt. Please go right ahead. I am not here to stop you. Enjoy every sweet morsel of Christmas.
January 1, 2024 lands on a Monday and I am so pumped. I feel like I had found a pretty good rhythm about halfway through this year but I have allowed the busyness of the holidays throw me off. I am beyond ready to get back on track and maybe tighten the reigns a little bit more.
I definitely get the thought process that you cannot overhaul your whole life just because the calendar now reads January. but it is a pretty good time to press the reset button and start working towards your goals with fresh resolve. So I invite you to join me. 21 days of no sugar and it begins on January 1st.
Reasons to do a sugar detox
For me personally, I don’t feel like sugar serves me at all. It has something that I have been addicted to since I was a child. I would say that I have the biggest control over my sugar monster now than I ever have. At least before Christmas came. That is why I need this sugar detox. My inflammation is worse. My pain is out of control. The more you eat sugar the more your body craves it.
Other reasons to cut out sugar:
- ages your body on a cellular level
- causes acne
- excess weight gain
- drains your energy
- increases your risk for diabetes, cancer and disease
- ages the skin
If those reasons alone don’t encourage you to cut the sugar, nothing will.
21 days of no sugar challenge
Ok, here’s the thing. You’re going to set your own boundaries here. Are you ready to go zero, I mean ZERO SUGAR? Go for it. Cut out all processed sugar. Read those labels. No more jam or ketchup. Good bye coffee creamer. See you in a couple weeks, sweet strawberries. But that also maybe too extreme for some people.
You may just want to draw the line at no sweets. No sugar, no dessert, no candy, no soda.. etc..
Wherever you draw the line, I ask that you make it clear on day one and stick to it.

January 30, 2024 Update: Alright. I completed the challenge and feel so proud at all that I have accomplished. You can read about my results here. I have not been restricting myself and have had a cup or two of hot chocolate but overall I have continued to keep sugar out of my daily eating. I feel great. Better than I have in a really long time and I plan to keep this up as my new lifestyle.
