I hosted my first ever, Favorite Things Party. It was super fun! So fun in fact that I did not take a single picture…. I know. Blogger FAIL! But I had a great night with a bunch of sweet ladies. Check out a quick Reel I made before everyone arrived on Instagram.
How a favorite thing party works
It is an easy party to prepare for and you can invited lots of people without things getting crazy. I made sure my house was decorated for Christmas and feeling festive and made some delicious holiday treats.
Invitations were send out a month ahead of time giving people plenty of time to shop sales leading up to the party. The party was on December 1st, and I hoped to get it in before all of the craziness hits.
Here is how I worded my invitation: “Think of your favorite thing for $20. Go to the store and buy 2 of that favorite thing (needs to be the exact same). Each favorite things needs to equal $20. You may need to add a few extra things to make it equal $20. Please spend no less than $40. It is not fair to others. Come ready to share that favorite thing with the group and then exchange it with 2 others at random. You will go home with 2 fun gifts! Even if you do not want to participate in the gift exchange, come and have a great time. “
This was the first time that I have used Punchbowl.com to send out invitations. It was great. People could RSVP and you can see your guest list easily on the app. I could also send messages to update guests about specific details. I designed my invitation in Canva and then uploaded it to the app. It was simple and easy and free!
What I brought
When I started thinking about what to bring, I struggled. My favorite thing…. it stumped me. I thought about one of my favorite gifts to ever receive at a Christmas gift exchange. It was a cozy blanket. I love it and use it all the time so that’s what I decided to do. I shopped Amazon’s Black Friday sales and purchased the blanket for $10. Isn’t that amazing! What a great deal for such a soft, cuddly blanket. I also purchased a Christmas devotional, Unwrapping the names of Jesus, and a cute page marker. It all came together beautifully and the recipients loved it!
What I received
I receive two great gifts that I am absolutely loving. First, Laneige lip glowy balm. This stuff is absolutely amazing! I’ve used the Laneige sleeping mask for a while now but I love that this is handheld and I can apply a million times throughout the day,
The second thing I received was a label maker. Guys, this label maker connects to your phone through bluetooth. You can go to the app, type up what you want, change the font and then print it all straight from your phone. How great is that?!
The Food I made
I hosted the party at 7:00 so I wanted to do a mixture of savory food and holiday sweets. I am kicking myself right now for not taking more pictures because I really loved the way it all turned out. Check out the video here.
- Candied Almonds
- Chocolate crinkle cookies
- Raspberry Linzer cookies
- hummus trees with a mustard dip
- sausage balls
- Pecan Pie Dip
- Cranberry Jalapeño Dip from Costco
- hot chocolate bar
It was really a simple party to put on. I had my house decorated for Christmas, made some yummy treats, and then invited everyone over. The gift exchange did not take long at all so we played a round of Christmas themed Fish Bowl. Next year, I will have some Holiday games planned with fun prizes.
