Summer Date Night In
I cannot stress enough the importance of dating your spouse on a regular basis. Spontaneous nights out are fun for sure but there is also something very special about that weekly date night that you know you can always count on. Date night does not always have to look like an expensive evening out. Save your money on a baby sitter and have intentional time together in the comfort of your own home. These dates do not cost extra money or require a lot of prep time but they will help keep the spark alive this summer.
3 Simple ways to make it a success
- No phones. Unless you want to take some cute photos together, try your best to leave the phones in another room.
- Have fun. Bring your flirty energy. Remember what it was like when you were dating. Just enjoy being together.
- Save the shop talk for later. There is always a lot to catch up on. I get it. But the leaky faucet and your kid’s camp schedule can wait til tomorrow. Tonight is about the two of you.
Home date night ideas
- Go on a neighborhood walk together. Hold hands, have cute chats, and enjoy the sun going down.
- Swim in the pool or have some hot tub time. A pool was a nonnegotiable for my husband when we were house shopping. We love to go out there after the kids are in bed and just unwind together and enjoy some time outdoors.
- Have a bonfire. Create fun s’more combinations. Play some romantic music. Do some stargazing.
- Movie night. Make some popcorn. Get supplies for ice cream sundaes and cuddle on the couch. Remember to connect and engage throughout the movie because if you don’t, what’s the point.
- Play corn hole together. My husband and I love a good competition but we often get too busy to create cute moments at home. I’m guessing you feel the same way. Pull out a fun yard game and maybe add a little wager to spice up the evening. (wink, wink)
- Play some video games. Whether its Mario Cart or some Fifa, my husband and I have fun together. But word to the wise, when it’s time to move on… move on….
- Have a fun game night just the two of you. Rumi 500, Stratego, Ticket to Ride, Quixx and Azul, to name a few, are great 2 person games.
- Make food together. We enjoy grilling steaks and seafood, making pizzas, or even trying out new milkshake recipes. Keep it light and fun. Taste as you go and enjoy the process.
- Have a picnic under the stars. Pack up little finger food and enjoy the sounds of summer.
- Have your own spa night. Pull out those face masks. Even if its not your husband’s thing, you’ll have fun putting it on each other and he probably could use some moisturizing. Grab some massage oil, and a soothing playlist and enjoy the night in.
What’s your favorite thing to do at home with your spouse? Try one of these great ideas and let me know how it goes. Remember to keep expectations low. The only goal is to spend time connecting. Find ways to love on your spouse and really focus on them.
